20 things you didn't know about Deal Or No Deal
The Deal Or No Deal studio

First of all... the rules!
Before each show, 22 contestants pick a box at random. Each box is sealed and contains an amount between 1p and £250,000. Only an independent adjudicator knows how much is in each box.

At the start of each show, one lucky contestant gets picked at random to compete in each show. During each round, they pick other boxes to be opened - revealing the amount inside. After each round, "the banker", who watches the show on a monitor, calls the studio and offers the contestant money for their box.

By opening boxes with low amounts inside, and showing confidence, the contestant will receive a high offer. By opening boxes with large amounts inside, the likelihood of their own box containing a high amount drops, so the banker's offer will be lower.

The contestant can either accept the offer - "deal" - or "no deal" in the hope they will get a better offer at a later stage, or that their box contains a higher amount. If they "deal" at a higher amount than is contained inside their box, they have beaten the banker.

If they want, they can continue to the very end of the show, open all the boxes, and go home with the sum contained inside their box.
